About Ben Lomond

The winter season usually starts around the beginning of July and closes late September.

The Alpine Village is located at the foot of the of the ski slopes and there are toboggan and snow play areas, downhill skiing and snowboarding.

How to get here and bus information

The Snow Fields are reached via the C401 from Launceston. The trip takes about 1 hour 20 minutes travel time from Launceston or 3.5 hours from Hobart via the Midlands Heritage Highway. If you are using Google Maps or some Satnavs, put in Upper Blessington and turn off where the Ben Lomond signs indicate. The turn off's co-ordinates are -41.478216, 147.534700.

The Snow Fields are 18 kilometres from the main road turnoff. The last seven kilometres of the road are subject to ice and snow. To that end it is a Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) regulation that if you are not catching the you must carry chains and fit them if directed. This regulation is for both 2WD and 4WD vehicles.

Chains cannot be hired on the mountain but can be rented at Autobarn in Launceston (03 6334 5601) or Skigia in Hobart (03 6234 6688).

Fuel is not available on the mountain.

Free car parking facilities are available at the Snow Sports Shuffle Bus stop and there is limited parking at the top.

The Snow Sports Shuffle Bus is located on the mountain 24/7. We collect from the Parks and Wildlife Service registration area and deliver you to the top car park at the base of the boardwalk. Call us on 03 6390 6185 if the bus is not there.
